Next Steps

Today's feedback:
  • Redefine the blue
  • Make the transition more slow with the sound
  • The circles should stay once the information is displayed
Remaining work:
  • Put everything together in one file (random movement of the bubbles)
  • Review the action scripting of the sms.

Creating the animated bubbles!

Here's a little step by step procedure to animate all the bubbles we need.
I hope it's clear for everyone and we can animated them all!

1. When opening the file, you will find three layers: actions, sound and bubble. The first thing we need to do is change the movieclip name, on the file I sent you is called 1960, go to the library, right click on the movieclip and select rename.

2. Once we renamed the movieclip, we can start modifying the symbol. Double click on the symbol (on the scene or the library, works anyway). Here you will find more layers, actions, options, rings, bubbleOff, bubbleOn, bubbleOff.

3. All we need to do now is replace the texts; year and information. Double click on the bubble on the scene (01.swf), when doing this, you'll see how the layer bubble off will highlight.

4. Once inside this symbol, you'll find two layers bubble and year, the one you'll be modifying is year.

5. If you click on the year, you'll find out that is a group of elements, double click on it, and you'll be able to access to all of them. Click over 1960's until is selected with a blue box around it.

6. Once the text box is selected, double click on it, until it gets highlighted in black, and you'll be able to type on it.

7. Now we go back to the 1960 symbol (in my case is called like that, but it should have the name of the year you're working on), clicking on it on the bar between the scene and the timeline (it's highlighted in red), and we'll go to frame 8, that's the where the transition of the second layer starts.

8. We need to repeat the same previous steps to change the year's information.

9. Once we do this, we go again to the 1960 symbol, and go to frame 21, we'll edit now the movieclip called bubbleRings.

10. Double click on this symbol, and you'll find two layers actions and rings. We'll be editing the symbols on each layer, changing once again the year. The process is the same as the one we have been doing before. Double click on it, double click on the grouped symbol of the year, select the year box, double click it, and type.

11. We have to do this on all the symbols on the rest of the keyframes (8 frames), the procedures is the same one, so it's quite an automatic work ( I know!!!! it's boring, but it's cleaner).

12. Once we modified the movieclip called bubbleRings, we'll be working on the transition of the bubble to display the information, so once again, we go to our symbol 1960, go to the frame 30, and double click on the symbol.

12. Inside this movieclip, we'll find the layers actions, text, littleBubble, year, bubble. This movieclip is the one with more editing.

13. First, we'll work with the year, if you click on the symbol, and you'll find the group, keep clicking on it until you have the year highlighted on black and you can type on it.

14. From frame 6 to 12, there's the transition of the little bubble showing the year and the water+ (or -, depending on the case). Go to frame 12, double click on the symbol, once again, you find a group of elements, the year and the water +, keep clicking on them until you can edit them.

15. Go back to the symbol transition, clicking on its name on the bar between the timeline and the scene. Go to frame 22, to modify the text. The procedure is the same, click on it until you're inside the symbol and can type.

This is the main editing we need to do for now, as you can see the little bubble with the year is an independent symbol so it can be moved to any side of the main bubble, feel free to do this!!!

1. Interface after some interactivity
2. User sends text to a specific year
3. Year bubble opens up to reveal option to view a water disaster ("water - ") or a water development ("water + ") that happened during that year.

Sketches #02

Visual sketches for the new concept

Navigation Sketch

Sketches

Things to consider

- Clarify sounds (we have to look for sounds that reminds the user of sms)

- Hear more sounds

- user has to generate the visualization or else it won’t do anything

- Timeline based visualization that will educate note important movements and developments in the history of water up to the scarcity

- High drama in terms of the impact of the graphics

- Look at LiquidJourney.com

The Project

Abstract

- Dynamic looking mass of “something” that will hold the timeline

- Don’t use anything frivolous or any eye candy

- Year bubbles will reveal the major events in water that happened that year

- Start with one bubble that is 2008 major events so that people know to text

- Each bubble will hold one event so the chance of the years event that comes down is random

- If more texts to a certain year are sent than events, then the first step that happens is that all the bubbles of the events of that year join together
- more texts are sent to that year, it will grow in size and smaller sub-bubbles will create inside bubble

- If a lot of people are texting the same year, it will show the same information
it could it could fill the inside with the last few digits of the bubble - attached - and people can leave their mark.

- If you text another number then it will bring the next year’s bubble next to the previously texted bubble.
